Don’t get the wrong idea from this title! I am not interested in being sedentary, avoiding adventure or giving up my wanderlust. Being grounded, to me, is more about being present and mindful. It is about creating optimal space so I can explore what is important to me and find peace, serenity and inspiration as much as possible.
Sure, throughout the past year there were many opportunities for mindful moments as I lived what felt like a magical adventure far outside of my comfort zone. I had solitary days in hotel rooms, relaxing times at beaches and lots of fun with new friends seeing new cities. I met amazing, wonderful people that otherwise would have never crossed my path. I had many, many good laughs and playful moments living and even thinking about my new life. I giggled often at my reflection in the mirror as I saw a Flight Attendant peering back at me; makeup, uniform and compliant hair styles. All of which felt unfamiliar, almost like I was playing dress-up. I will take all of those good vibes and friendships with me as I move towards the next path that creates a spark for me.
I likely would have remained in the air longer if it weren’t for the long stretches without sleep (I was working mostly redeye flights) and all of the challenges I experienced in my personal life. These events included the loss of my beloved mother and this mind boggling global pandemic – COVID 19. Honestly, those were just the biggest of many hurdles I jumped over these past 12-18 months.
My growth and learning will continue and part of that includes knowing that moving on is what I need to do and that moving on slowly is just fine. And slow moving I am!
So, it is time now for me to bring back some of what I love that couldn’t be incorporated into the flight attendant lifestyle. I’ll be focusing on my health and wellness; body, mind and spirit.
On the business side that will include increasing my work with Reiki, providing workshops related to my book, writing more, working on virtual reiki meditation groups and “Mindfulness Mondays with Mari” (similar to the mindfulness workshops I created at RMCC). I will also be doing more massage therapy once it is safe to do so again.
On the personal side I will be spending time walking, training my new puppy, meditating, working on art, exercising and trying to stay positive during this pandemic and the next national election. My intention is to increase joy, passion and positive vibrations in my life and in those around me. Please wish me luck with this next reboot.
